Last Chance to Close the Deadly Loophole! Demand Turtle Excluder Devices in All Shrimp Trawls! Voice Your Support before July 9!
Sea Turtle Restoration Project (SeaTurtles.org) is the leading advocacy group for protecting sea turtles from capture and drowning in the world's commercial fishieries. New protections for sea turtles will save an estimated 5,500 sea turtles per year from accidental capture in skimmer trawl nets used by shrimp boats that operate in the shallow, inshore waters of the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic coast of the U.S.
Speak up for the sea turtles and responsible fishing! Take Action by July 9, 2012, below.
Skimmer trawls accidentally capture about 28,000 sea turtles per year and more than 6,000 of them drown, according to National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS). To protect sea turtles from these shrimp nets, demand Turtle Excluder Devices (TEDs) in all skimmer trawls.
