The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is about to make a huge leap backwards in sea turtle protection! Take action today to stop NMFS from increasing the number of endangered sea turtles that are killed by longlines.
The Hawaii longline swordfish fishery is a constant danger to endangered Pacific leatherback and loggerhead sea turtles. Sea turtles get hooked or entangled in longlines, which contain thousands of hooks stretched over ten to forty miles, causing them to either be critically injured or drown.
But now, NMFS is proposing to allow a considerable increase in allowable take of 100% more loggerhead and 62% more leatherback sea turtles. The Sea Turtle Restoration Project needs your help today to pressure NMFS from increasing the turtle carnage.
Take action! Tell NMFS that we won’t let them undo years of our conservation campaign progress with this rollback of regulation. Loggerhead photo credit Doug Perrine/SeaPics.com
